Staying in Country

• If the sailor is staying in the country overseas for a long period of time and has a bank account that they can access, it is a little easier to send them money using a simple bank transfer. There is usually minimal time spent doing this, unless the funds have to transfer through more than one bank.
  
  Doing this online at a secure website is much faster. You can perform the transfer in less time, the instructions are listed on the page and the soldier will receive the funds faster. The payments can be made by credit card or other methods, depending on the bank you are dealing with. There are some minimal fees to pay, but there will be with any form of money transfer. Make sure the country that you are sending the money to is eligible for the transfer.
  
  

Passing Through

• If the sailor is passing through the country, then chances are they don't have a bank account there. In this case, global money transfers such as those offered by Western Union or Travelex are secure routes for delivering funds. They are offered worldwide and there is no need to have internet access.
  
  This is usually for a short term solution for sending money. The fees are higher than bank transfers and you need to use cash for these transactions. They will not accept credit cards.
  
  

Money Orders

• There is another option if neither of the aforementioned routes suit your situation. You can purchase a money order and send it overseas. This generally requires cash, but a money order is secure and traceable if there is a problem. The recipient must have proper identification to be able to pick up the money order.
  
  Money orders from the United States can be cashed in almost any country at banks or postal outlets. There are limits on the amount that can be purchased on each money order, but you can purchase more than one and the fee for each is quite low.
