A common myth is that the pictures are always nicer if we used flashlight.
That is not true.
Many photographs out there would be nicer without flash.
This is because our eyes needs shadows to make out shapes.
When the light is coming from the same position as the lens, there are no shadows on the faces.
Flashlight from the camera will not be able to travel far.
This means that things close to the camera will be washed out, the subject in focus will be properly exposed, and the background will be very dark.
Many people who sell photographs online tend to make the mistake of using flashlight when not necessary.
Most point and shoot cameras allow us to control the camera flash.
To switch off the flash light, we can just press the tiny lightning bolt button until the "no flash" symbol is displayed.
This way, the camera will be able to leave the shutter open long enough to capture enough ambient light to make an exposure.
The side-effect of leaving the flashlight on is that we also get the same long shutter speeds for capturing ambient light that we get when we switch the flashlight off.
Although it is better not to on the flashlight when using a point and shoot camera, the flashlight is actually more useful when using a compact digital camera.
It is extremely useful outdoors when we have both shaded and sunlit objects in the same picture.
This is because that a digital photo cannot handle the same range of contrast as your eyes.
A picture that is nicely exposed for the sunlight object will render the shaded subject as dark, while a picture that is nicely exposed for the shaded subject will render the sunlit background object as too bright.
It is definitely easier to sell photographs online that is digital rather than one that is not.
