How to Calculate Sod Pallets for Your Yard
- 1). Measure the length and width of the area where you are laying the sod and multiply the two figures together. For example, if the area is 50 by 60 feet, the total area is 3,000 square feet.
- 2). Divide the area's square footage by 9, which is how many square feet a yard of sod covers. Round this number up since it is better to have leftover sod than not enough to finish the job. For example, 3,000 divided by 9 equals about 334 square yards.
- 3). Divide the total number of square yards you need by the number of square yards in a pallet to find the number of pallets. If you end up with a partial number, round up to a full pallet. In the example, 334 divided by 50 would be 6.68, which, rounded up, equals seven pallets.
