How to Remove Bumper Scuffs
- 1). Clean the surface of the bumper with a cloth, soap and water. Rinse the bumper with water and dry it with a towel.
- 2). Using a fine grain sandpaper, sand the area that has been scuffed. Use even back-and-forth movements. Sand until the area is smooth and even. Brush off any remaining dust with a cloth.
- 3). Put masking tape around the edges of the sanded area. Tape heavy paper around the outside of this area. This will prevent paint from being sprayed onto the undamaged areas.
- 4). Spray a coat of paint over the sanded area using even back-and-forth motions. Let it dry. Most scuffs are superficial, and will only need one coat. If one coat is not enough, you can repeat this step to spray on a second coat.
- 5). Spray on a coat of clear coat. Let it dry. Remove the masking tape and the heavy paper surrounding the repaired area.
- 6). Rub a polishing compound around the repaired area, gently rubbing in the edges to smooth them out. Rub the edges in a gentle massaging motion. This will flatten out the edges where you touched up the bumper.
