How to Add a Monitor to a Dell XPS 8100
- 1). Purchase a monitor that matches the remaining video port on your XPS. Adapters can be purchased to convert an existing monitor to the necessary format if you prefer.
- 2). Plug the monitor into your computer. If you are using the DVI interface, tighten the thumb screws on the connector to hold the wire in place. These can be tightened with your fingers.
- 3). Turn on the second monitor. Windows recognizes it and begins to mirror your existing desktop on the second monitor. You need to change some configurations to use it as an extended desktop.
- 4). Click "Start" from the Windows desktop and click "Control Panel." Click "Appearance and Personalization" and click "Adjust Screen Resolution." Select "Extend These Displays" from the "Multiple Displays" drop-down list.
- 5). Drag the two monitor graphics to match their positions respective to one another on your actual desk. Click "OK," and Windows extends your desktop onto the second monitor. You can now move windows back and forth between them.
