DeKalb, Illinois, is a small outlying suburb of Chicago. The city is known primarily for Northern Illinois University, which attracts a large number of students to the area. The student population is diverse, so the need for different fitness clubs is significant. Not only must the clubs offer a quality opportunity for exercise, but each must provide the type of exercise equipment and classes needed for the people who live in or commute to DeKalb. - The DeKalb Park District offers a number of different facilities which each offer a unique set of fitness opportunities. There is the Sports and Recreation Center, which provides year-round athletic programs in sports such as baseball, basketball, softball and soccer. Fields and courts may be rented for various amounts of time, providing an ideal solution for those who wish to get in shape through an athletic event rather than through gym exercises. Those who wish to hit the weights and work on treadmills can go to the Park District's Haish Gymnasium, and those who wish to swim for their exercise can stop by the Hopkins Pool. The Park District also has the River Heights Golf Course, for those who wish to get their exercise through a round of golf.
