How to Use Sheetrock for a Half-Bathroom in a Cellar
- 1). Measure across the width of the longest stud wall in the framed-in half-bathroom.
- 2). Mark out the measurement on a piece of wetrock sheetrock with a pencil and level. Run your utility knife alongside the level, scoring it. Snap the board in two at the scored line.
- 3). Put the cut piece against the wall, sitting on the floor. Level the top of the board if necessary by setting your level on top of it and pushing shims under the bottom edge as needed.
- 4). Secure the piece by shooting galvanized screws every 6 inches along each of the studs that's behind the sheet.
- 5). Hang the next piece of wetrock above the first, in the same manner. Repeat for the top piece if the first two don't completely cover the wall. Score and cut the top of the top piece as needed to fit.
- 6). Repeat the process for the other walls in the room. Use your drywall saw to cut around the plumbing and other obstructions. Cover all the walls.
- 7). Set mesh drywall tape onto each seam between the sheets of wetrock. Spread joint compound over the tape with a drywall knife, getting it flat and smooth. Also spread compound over the screw holes.
- 8). Let the compound dry for six hours. Add two more layers of compound, keeping each layer flat and smooth and making each a little wider than the previous one. Let the last layer set for 12 hours.
- 9). Use your drywall sander to smooth out the seams. Paint or tile the wall.
