How to Get a Password for an AOL Email
- 1). Open your web browser and visit the AOL account sign-in page.
- 2). Click the "Forgot password" link below the "Password" field.
- 3). Input your AOL username or email address into the "Username or Email" field. Input the code from the box in the center of the page into the "Enter what you see above" field. The code can consist of letters, numbers, spaces and symbols. This ensures that you are human and not a program attempting to fraudulently retrieve a user's password. If you cannot read the code, click the icon to the right of the box that resembles a circular arrow -- this gives you another code. Click "Next."
- 4). Click on one of the options to verify your account. This further protects unauthorized access to your AOL email account. Options include "Text My Mobile," "Alternate Email Address," "Billing Information" or "Account Security Question." Each of these options allows you to provide information only you know or allows you to receive a text or email on your account specified alternate email address or cellular phone to verify your identity.
- 5). Click "Next" to send the text or email if you selected "Text My Mobile" or "Alternate Email Address." Wait for the email or text to arrive then enter code from the email or text into the specified field and click "Next." If the code matches what AOL sent, you will arrive at the "Create your new password" screen. If you chose one of the other options, skip this step.
- 6). Answer the security question or billing information question if you selected "Billing Information" or "Account Security Question." Click "Next." If the information matches what AOL has on file, you will arrive at the "Create your new password" screen. If you chose one of the other options, skip this step.
- 7). Enter your new password into the "New Password" field. Re-enter the new password into the field below it. Click "Next." The password will reset to the new password you just entered.
- 8). Click "Done" then log in using the new password.
