    • 1). Make sure your microphone is connected properly to your computer. You will not be able to record anything in your Word document if your microphone is not connected properly.

    • 2). Check microphone driver. Click Start and select "Run..." Type without the quotes "devmgmt.msc" and press "Enter" key. This will launch Device Manager. Scroll down and locate "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." Click to expand it. Locate the entry for your microphone. Right-click it and select "Update Driver software."

    • 3). Add "Insert Voice" icon if it is not visible in Word 2007. Click the Office button and select "Word Options." Click "Customize." Next, click the drop-down menu "Choose Commands From." Choose "Commands Not In Ribbon." Click "Insert Voice." Hit "Add" and select "OK."

    • 4). Check volume controls of your "Sound Object." Right-click the volume icon (looks like a speaker) on your talk bar next to the click and select "Recording Devices." Single-click to highlight the entry for your microphone device. Click "Properties." Click the "Levels" tab. Drag the slider to the right to increase record levels. Click "Apply."
