Children's Winter Birthday Party Ideas
- If staying inside near the fireplace is the plan for your child's party, then consider making the party a craft party. Your child can make snowflake invitations for the party. When the kids arrive, you can do anything from making more snowflakes to hang from the ceiling, to creating jewelry by beading necklaces and bracelets. Making candles or soap can also be a possibility with older children.
For an overnight winter party, have all of the children wear their pajamas and make it a pizza party, complete with stringing popcorn, drinking hot cocoa and telling wintertime stories. Try selecting your child's favorite winter movies to settle the kids before bed.
Because you are indoors, you also have the option to incorporate the classic birthday party games such as Pin the Tail on the Donkey, or Musical Chairs, or play board games with the winner of each game being awarded a prize. - If you are willing to take the party outdoors, you'll want to supply lots of activities while still making time for breaks to warm up the kids. The quickest game to get the party started is to create a pile of everyone's gloves before you head outside. On your mark, the child to find their matching set first wins the first prize of the day.
Once outside, the classic three-legged race or Red Rover are options. You can take advantage of snow, if you have it, to hold a sledding party. Have each child bring their own sled and take them to your backyard or park with a good hill. The children can also have a race to make the largest snowball in a set time period. The same game can be used to see who can create the best snowman in under five minutes.
With appropriate ground rules, and depending on the ages of children attending, you can also opt to hold a snowball fight, complete with forts made either by the children or before the party begins. Just remember to serve up some hot chocolate and perhaps even a coconut cake made to look like fallen snow. - One fun way to have a party and get the kids out of the house without getting cold is to take the group to a specific location. This can mean you take the children bowling, to a play center, or even to a craft event at a local store or library. This can not only cure cabin fever, but also let your child use up energy and enjoy the company of friends.
To put a spin on the winter birthday party, try organizing a tropical indoor pool party at your local swimming club or gym. You can create luau or pirate invitations with your child to let guests know what to expect, as well as arrange an indoor treasure hunt. Serve fruity drinks with festive Hawaiian foods.
