How to Line a Sauna
- 1). Measure out your plastic sheeting and staple it to the walls and ceiling. Leave a 6-inch overhang on the bottom. If you have cement or cinder-block walls, staple to the floor joists in the ceiling. If the walls and ceiling are cement, temporarily secure it with tape, or have someone hold it while you perform the next step.
- 2). Screw the 1- by 1-inch pine boards to the wall so they are parallel to the floor and securing the plastic once again. If you are screwing into cement, you will need to pre-drill your holes with a hammer drill. The bottom board should be 4 inches from the floor; one board should be in the middle of the wall, and the last board should be next to the ceiling.
- 3). Measure out your foam, and cut it with your box cutter so the foam fits tightly between the pine boards that are screwed to the wall. Make sure the aluminum side is facing you.
- 4). Fold the excess plastic sheeting at the floor up and over the foam, and secure in place with your staples.
- 5). To secure the cedar paneling, start from a corner in the sauna, place the groove side of the panel in the corner so the tongue is free for the next board to connect to. Nail through the board three places in the corner and then through the tongue diagonally into each of the pine 1- by 1 inch-boards, hiding the nails.
- 6). Continue with nailing the boards to the walls but only nailing through the tongue. Exposed nails in the sauna can heat up and cause burns.
