How to Make Holiday Chair Back Covers
- 1). Measure the width of the chair back and add 2 inches to the measurement. Measure how long you want the chair back cover to extend over the chair back. Add 1 inch to this measurement.
- 2). Draw on the paper a rectangular pattern or rounded edge rectangle according to the shape and adjusted measurements of the chair back. Cut out the pattern.
- 3). Fold the fabric, right sides touching, and pin the pattern to the fabric. Cut out two pieces of the pattern.
- 4). Remove the pattern and pin the sides and chair back cover top along the edges, right sides of the fabric touching. Leave the chair back cover bottom open.
- 5). Sew along the pinned edges, using a 1-inch seam allowance and the straight stitch function on the sewing machine, leaving the chair back opening unsewn. Remove the pins.
- 6). Insert the raw edges of the chair back opening fabric into the fold of the pre-folded, double fold bias tape and pin one side of the bias tape to the right side of the fabric and the other side of the fold to the wrong side of the fabric. The raw edges will be entirely covered by the bias tape.
- 7). Sew the top edges of the bias tape, using a 1-inch seam allowance and the zigzag function on the sewing machine, removing pins as sewing progresses around the entire pinned edge of the bias tape.
- 8). Turn the chair back cover right side out and slip over the top of the chair back.
