A home equipped with Energy Star products runs with 30 percent less energy consumption than those run with standard products.

    Specifications

    • To be registered as an Energy Star product a manufacturer must meet certain requirement, including the product giving significant savings to the consumer. The Energy Star website explains the product must provide the features and performance required by customers, while adding to the energy efficiency of a product compared to its competitors.

    Market Share

    • The Energy Star website reports that Energy Star ratings are reviewed when a market share of at least 50 percent of products meet the required energy consumption levels. With home audio equipment each piece of equipment must use a maximum of 1 watt of energy when in standby mode to earn Energy Star certification.
