    Daily To-Do List

    • The best way to use your planner is on an actual day-to-day basis. Make a daily "to do" list that will help you keep on track. If you do not have enough space to store this list in your calendar boxes, this information can be stored in your "Notes" or "Lists" section in a day planner. Being able to cross items off of your to-do list as you fulfill your daily goals is an excellent motivator and is just the incentive you need to keep you on task.

    Color-Codes and Shorthand

    • A large benefit of using a day planner is the opportunity to get your daily life more organized, but if your day planner is disheveled and a mess, it will be that much harder to keep your appointments on track. Use code to keep your planner at maximum efficiency. For example, try using different colored pens to signify different tasks. For example, a blue pen could be used to mark your work needs, red pen can be used to note appointments and green can be used to mark holidays and special events. You can also use shorthand code to keep your planner concise and easy to reference.

    Convenient Storage

    • The only way to ensure you will use your day planner is to assure you keep it in a convenient location. If you carry a purse, your day planner should remain inside your purse at all times unless it is being used. Preferably, it should be placed in a special pocket of your purse so you don't have to search for it when you need it. If you don't carry a purse, try slipping it into a back pocket, car console or frequently used drawer. You may even want to purchase a carrying case for your day planner that is complete with a pen, a handle and replacement paper as needed.
