King's speech is a British film in 2010 historical drama directed by Tom Hooper and written by David Seidler. Colin Firth plays King George VI, to overcome his stammer, he sees Lionel Logue, an Australian speech therapist wisely played by Geoffrey Rush. The two men become friends as they work together, and after his brother Edward VIII abdicates, Logue is based on the new king to help him do a radio show the day that Britain go to war with Germany at the beginning of the second World War.The film was nominated for seven Golden Globes, winning Best Actor - Drama for Firth. Seidler began researching the life of George VI after overcoming his own stutter during his youth and, using their imagination informed people wrote about the relationship. Nine weeks before filming, Logue notebooks were discovered and quotes from them were incorporated in the script. Filming took place in London and other locations in the United Kingdom in December 2009 and early January 2010. The film was released in the UK on 7 January 2011.
