How to Reduce Stress on a Car's Air Conditioning System
- 1). Turn the air conditioner off before you start your car, but leave the vent on. Then start your car, and if it is hot outside, roll down the windows.
- 2). Drive for at least 1 mile with the windows down. This will expel most of the built-up hot air from inside the car, which is the most significant thing you can do to ease the burden on an AC system and engine.
- 3). Roll up the windows, and switch the air conditioner on.
- 4). Turn off the air conditioner about 5 minutes before you reach your destination. Running the AC system causes the engine to work harder, and therefore, build up more heat. Turning the AC system off while the engine is still running will help to expel some of this heat accumulation from the engine.
