How to Upgrade to 16 GB Memory in a T3400
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Shut down." Disconnect all wires, cables and accessories from the computer once it is turned off, including the power cord.
- 2). Lay the computer flat on a table or desk, with the cover facing up. Pull back the release latch located near the top of the cover. Lift the cover up so that it lifts away from the computer. Touch both of your hands to the outside of the computer case. This grounds you and discharges any static electricity.
- 3). Look for the memory modules, which are rectangular in shape and securely installed in the connector slots, with latching clips on both sides of each connector. There are four slots in total, in groups of two. Each group is separated by a small space. There are two memory modules installed in slots one and two, or three and four. Slot one is the left-most slot in the first group, while slot two is the left-most slot in the second group; slot three is the right-most slot in the first group and slot four is the right-most slot in the second group.
- 4). Push down on the clips next to the slots that have the memory installed. Pull the memory modules straight up; they should pull out of the slot easily.
- 5). Insert the 4 GB memory modules into the four connector slots, aligning the notch in the bottom of the memory module with the crossbar in the connector slot. Press straight down and the security clips will automatically snap up and secure the module into place.
- 6). Replace the cover once all four memory modules are secured in the connector slots. Align the cover over the computer and press down until you hear a "click" noise that signals it is secure. If the latch is not locked into place, remove the cover and reattach it.
- 7). Reconnect all accessories, cords and wires. Turn on the computer by pressing the power button. Click the "Start" menu once Windows loads and right-click "Computer." Click "Properties" and look next to "Installed Memory." If the installed memory is "16 GB," then the memory is correctly installed.
