Most of us don't pay a lot of attention to our swimming pools. But this is one thing you should be very serious about because if you do not act now then this problem can escalate and become huge after some time. So you should regularly do leak detection in pool to check for leaks. If you suspect that your pool has a leak then you should place a bucket in the pool. Add water to the bucket until the water level in the bucket and the water level of the pool outside the bucket are the same.

Mark both water levels on the bucket itself and wait 24 hours. If the water level in the pool has gone down below the water level inside the bucket then it indicates that you have a leak. If your pool is above ground then the suspension area of leak would be lining the pool. Walk around the perimeter of the pool and check the wet areas. A wet or musky area where you find mold growth indicates that there could be a leak in that area. For an in ground pool indicator of leaks are loose tiles and dead or dying vegetation.

Another very effective method for leak detection in pool can be a dye test. Some people believe that you can put a dye in the pool and somehow find the leak by this method. But the actual way to do dye test is much more complicated but is still easy enough so that they can be performed effectively by home owners and professional detectors alike. You don't need help from any professional for this or don't require any special training for this. The concept of a dye test is to manually confirm whether a leak area is leaking or not.

This method can be used before you have done a thorough inspection of the pool and determine the possible areas where a leak can take place. Then you need to do dye test on these areas. Spray four to five drops of dye adjacent to the area where you think the leak can take place. Most of the dye will stay together and will keep on rocking gently with the motion of the pool water and will gently be pulled into the leak instead of just diffusing in the pool water. The larger the leak the more the dye is going to be pulled inside the leak. So by following these methods you can do leak detection in pool. But you should not try to fix these leaks by yourself as you can mess it up and should call a professional for repairing these leaks.
