How to Build a Small BMX Bike Track
- 1). Place the emptied barrels in an arrangement for a track. These barrels are used as jumps and will be covered by dirt, so you want to put two in a row at least 30 feet apart, and after the turn (berm), you can place the other two barrels.
- 2). Shovel dirt on top of the barrels to create an incline and a decline on both sides of the barrel. Dirt should cover the entire jump. Use the garden hoe to compact the dirt on the ramp to ensure the dirt doesn't move during the jump.
- 3). Dig four of the fence posts into the ground solidly, about 2 feet apart in a half circle shape to create a berm. A berm is a dirt wall that you ride on to turn quickly at an angle to keep your speed up. Make sure you've buried at least 18 inches of the fence post into the ground because this is the foundation for riding your bike on.
- 4). Place the plywood sheets, with the lengthy 6-foot side on the ground. Push them clear up against the fence post to provide a solid foundation. The plywood sheets should copy the half circle or moon shape to create a berm.
- 5). Using about four wheel barrow loads, shovel the dirt right up against the wall. The dirt should create a 45-degree angle of dirt up against the plywood structure to create the berm. Use the garden hoe to compact the dirt down to ensure a safe transfer on and off of the berm.
- 6). Take your water hose and spray down all of the dirt ramps to help the dirt settle. Once it's wet, take the garden hoe and compact the dirt again.
