How to Make a Pillow From Curtains
- 1). Launder the curtains to pre-shrink the fabric. This will allow you to wash the pillows if you need to in the future, without shrinking the fabric around the stitches.
- 2). Iron the curtains with an iron set to the appropriate setting for the curtain fabric type.
- 3). Measure the desired length and width for the pillow with a measuring tape and draw an outline of the pillow twice onto the curtain with fabric chalk, adding 2 inches to both the length and width of each outline for seam allowances.
- 4). Cut out the fabric pieces along the drawn lines.
- 5). Lay one fabric piece wrong side down on a flat surface and lay the other piece directly on top of it, wrong side up.
- 6). Pin the edges of the fabric pieces together by placing straight pins through both layers of fabric every inch around the edges.
- 7). Sew a straight stitch through both layers along each edge, 1/2 inch inward from the edges of the fabric with needle and thread or a sewing machine. Leave 2 inches unsewn along one of the edges.
- 8). Turn the pillow inside out through the 2-inch opening.
- 9). Fill the pillow with cotton batting through the 2-inch opening.
- 10
Tuck the raw fabric edges of the 2-inch opening inward and pin both layers together so the raw edges are hidden. - 11
Sew the 2-inch opening shut with needle and thread or a sewing machine.
