Newly-Refurbished Expedition Ship of Silversea Cruises
Silversea Cruises launched the Silver Galapagos, its second expedition ship, on September 28. The 100-guest ship sails the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador on the west coast of South America.
The ship was formerly named the Galapagos Explorer II, and it was significantly refurbished and upgraded to meet Silversea Cruises' standards. The expedition ship features a new fitness center, massage room, beauty salon, outdoor Jacuzzi, outdoor furniture, and Silversea's signature outdoor dining venue, The Grill.
In addition, all public areas and guest suites were refreshed with new upholstery, carpeting, curtains, and wall treatments. Each suite is highlighted by a totally renovated bathroom, enhanced with rich marble detailing. Besides a new walk-in rainforest shower, each bathroom features a new vanity, shelving, mirrors, lighting fixtures, and wood flooring. Plus, all guest suites have been outfitted with new flat screen TVs, new mattresses (custom-made exclusively for Silversea), and luxurious Pratesi bed linens. Other ship enhancements include the installation of Wi-Fi access throughout the ship (including all suites) and a new complimentary service providing streaming movies and live television news broadcasts for guests to enjoy on their portable devices.
Silver Galapagos sails Saturday to Saturday on seven-day roundtrip voyages from Baltra Island, following either a western or north central route around the Galapagos Islands. These expedition cruises offer travelers the life-enriching chance to discover a wild, pristine paradise that has been regarded as a natural laboratory of evolution ever since Charles Darwin visited.
On complimentary expeditions ashore guided by an experienced expedition team (certified by the Galápagos National Park Service), Silversea's guests may experience up-close encounters with wildlife such as sun-basking land iguanas, giant tortoises, blue- and red-footed boobies, colorful marine iguanas, sea lions, penguins and Darwin's famous finches.
A cruise of the Galapagos Islands features an itinerary that appeals to all those who love wildlife and nature. I'd heard for years about the diversity and abundance of wildlife in these islands, and it was even more impressive than I dreamed when I visited earlier this year. I'm sure the Silversea Silver Galapagos will bring the special touches and high level of service the cruise line offers on its other ships to the Galapagos Islands.
