Technical Issues with SimCity Societies

Be forewarned that SimCity Societies is also a system hog. The gorgeous graphics and the tracking of tens of thousands individual Sims will eat up memory and bring many video cards to a grinding halt. Make sure you check your system before buying the game. You may need to adjust the graphics options in-game to get a smooth gameplay even if you meet the basic system requirements.

The Bottom Line

The lack of challenge is my biggest complaint about SimCity Societies. I tend to prefer games that allow me to play without micromanaging every last detail, but even I want some sort of purpose and goals. I rarely had a problem with money and, when I did, I left the game running for a few minutes to build up my treasury. This is a risk in most games, as you’re bound to come back to find your town torn down by rioters or swept away in a flood. No danger of that here. You may have the occasional fire (I never saw one, but apparently it’s a possibility), though, so be prepared! Then again, it might be more fun to just gamble without any fire stations at all.

This game may have appeal to people who love design and who will just enjoy the ability to build freely without constraints. It might be fun for younger gamers. For anyone who wants depth of game play, a bit of strategic planning, or something interesting to work towards, SimCity Societies isn’t the place to look.
