Is Mad Men True to Life?
Whether Mad Men is accurate depends on who you ask, and that's true even if you ask people who really work as ad executives and who really did so back in the 1950s and 1960s.
Some of them think that the show is garbage, but others feel that it's a very realistic depiction of what took place back then.
That includes all the smoking, all the drinking, and the sexual innuendo and harassment that went on.
Women in the workplace weren't treated the same way back then as they are right now, and that shows in Mad Men.
It, allegedly, showed in real life back in the 1960s, as well.
Most people who were in the workforce at that time will tell you that things were very, very different.
That doesn't mean that they were better or worse, though.
They were just not the same as they are today.
People who don't like Mad Men often feel as though it's just trying to get attention and things weren't like that in the real world, but if they weren't there, they don't actually know.
Advertising agencies weren't the only businesses where people acted that way and women were treated as lesser people, though.
It was typical of businesses in general in that time period.
In that sense, Mad Men is very true to life.
Advertising is not an easy business, and it never has been.
It's very hard work to come up with slogans that companies like and that people will pay attention to and remember.
A forgettable slogan is pointless, and if the slogan or the advertising for a product is annoying to consumers, there will be people who won't buy that product just because of the advertising.
It's unfortunate in some ways that people focus that strongly on advertising, but they often do.
In another way, though, it's great that they focus on advertising very strongly because that means that good advertising that they like will really help a brand grow and develop.
Shows like Mad Men really show people how things worked, though, and how different things are now.
As long as they basically stay true to life and are realistic in what they offer to viewers, there's no reason to think that they'll have anything but success.
Mad Men right now is doing well, and it looks as though that trend will continue, so the creators of the show don't have much to worry about.
They've portrayed it pretty accurately.
