How to Recycle a Glass Coffee Jar

    • 1). Remove the outer label from the jar. Pour a very small amount of cooking oil directly on to the adhesive that is stuck to the jar. Rub adhesive off with a dry paper towel.

    • 2). Remove any protective foil liner from the mouth of jar. Wash coffee jar thoroughly with hot water and dish washing detergent. Rinse with hot water and set to air dry in a dish drainer. You can dry with a paper towel.

    • 3). Choose a stencil, picture or pattern to decorate the jar. Use the item as a guide and outline the design you have chosen on to the outside of the jar with white or black paint or marker.

    • 4). Paint and fill in the character, still life objects or letters of your design on to the jar. Let it air dry 24 to 48 hours according to the paint manufacturer's directions.

    • 5). Cut a piece of ribbon to match the size of the outside of the jar cover. Glue the ribbon with white tacky craft glue to the cover sides all the way around.

    • 6). Finish off the jar cover top by gluing a circle of scrapbooking paper to it. You can make it personal by gluing buttons, glass beads, glass marbles, mosaics, figurines or baked clay pieces to the top for decoration.
