Tree Mural

• Adorn a focal wall in the room with a silhouette tree mural. Pick an accent paint color that calls nature to mind and complements the existing base color. Make the shape of a branching tree that stretches from floor to ceiling with blue painter's tape, cutting the tape into narrower and narrower strips as the branches get smaller. Add animals to the tree if desired. Select creatures with distinctive silhouettes like owls, squirrels and upside-down hanging bats. Mask off the edges of the focal wall and protect the floor, molding and nearby furniture. Paint the wall with two coats of the accent color. Obtain a large, sturdy tree stump. Clean it thoroughly and allow to dry---drying time will depend on climate and species of tree. Cut and sand the top of the stump until it is level and smooth. Set a round, heavy piece of glass with smooth edges on top of the stump to serve as a table surface. Choose a glass piece not much bigger in diameter than the stump for safety reasons.
