How do I Replace Toshiba S135 Keyboard With a USB Keyboard?
- 1). Shut down the Toshiba laptop and turn it off. Close the LCD screen on the computer and then flip it over so that it is facing bottom-side up. Disconnect the AC adapter, then unlock and remove the battery from the bottom of the unit.
- 2). Flip the laptop back over and open the LCD screen. Use a flathead screwdriver or scribe to pry up the cover along the top of the keyboard. Carefully lift up on the keyboard cover to remove it, and avoid damaging the LCD screen while doing so.
- 3). Remove the two keyboard retaining screws that are located above the "F1" and "Windows" keys. Gently lift the keyboard out of the laptop.
- 4). Rotate the keyboard so that you can access the ribbon connector cable underneath it. Gently pull the connector out of the slot on the laptop. Set the keyboard back in place in the laptop shell.
- 5). Reinsert the retaining screws and tighten with the Phillips screwdriver. Replace the keyboard cover and snap into place. Close the LCD screen and flip the laptop over.
- 6). Reinsert the battery and makes sure it locks into place in the slot. Turn the laptop back over again so that is facing right side up.
- 7). Reconnect the AC adapter.
- 1). Plug the USB keyboard into an available USB slot on the M55-S135 computer. Turn the laptop on allow it to boot into Windows.
- 2). Wait for Windows to recognize the new USB keyboard and configure it for use. If prompted to restart the computer, use your mouse to shutdown and restart the laptop.
- 3). Test the keyboard to make sure it functions as expected in Windows. The built-in keyboard is now disabled, and you can use the USB keyboard as a replacement.
