How to Write a Design CV

    • 1). Take presentation into account. You are applying for a design position, so you should show your design ability within the CV. If you have a logo, consider adding this somewhere on your CV. Otherwise, make use of white space and aesthetic appeal when formatting your CV.

    • 2). Include your name and contact information on the first page of your CV. This should be featured with the most prominence on your CV. Include your name, phone number, address, email address, website (if applicable) and fax number if you have one.

    • 3). Write a concise and effective objective that explains the job you are applying for. This should be 1-2 sentences that detail who you are as a designer and what you would like to accomplish in this job position.

    • 4). Create a written account of relevant job experience. Because you are applying for a design job, you don't need to include job history that is not relevant to your desired career. Do not worry if you don't have that much job experience. Fill up your CV with education and personal experience that will highlight why you are ideal for the position. Arrange this information chronologically, beginning with the most recent.

    • 5). Include your educational background. Be as detailed as possible. Do not just list the name of the school, degree received and date you graduated; add the location of the school, what you majored in, relevant coursework, grades received as well as any awards and distinctions. Like your job history, arrange this information chronologically, beginning with the most recent.

    • 6). Include information about any workshops you have attended or certifications you have received which are relevant to the field of design. Outline what position you held, what certifications you received, what extra coursework you took or any other relevant information. Arrange this chronologically as well.

    • 7). Feature any awards or distinctions that are relevant to the world of design. Explain when and where you achieved these distinctions. Also detail what these awards were for and why you received them.

    • 8). Include sections for special skills and traits that make you an eligible candidate. Highlight any languages you speak, any computer software you are familiar with or any other special experience with design that qualifies you for this position.

    • 9). Include a section for three to five references who can vouch for your abilities and employment history. Include how you know them, their job title and their contact information including phone number, email address and fax number.
