How to Draw Animal Skins

    • 1). Sketch out the animal onto a sheet of drawing paper. Decide on the appropriate skin for the specific animal. For example, a bear will have thick fur.

    • 2). Shade in the area where the skin will be using a moderate pressure.

    • 3). Draw branching lines over the shaded area using a stronger pressure.

    • 4). Blend the branching lines into the shaded area using a blending tool. This will make skin that looks like an elephant or a rhino.

    • 5). Use a heavy pressure with the tip of the pencil to make short, parallel marks over the entire area where the skin will be. This will be the short hairs of fur, like that on a deer or a dog.

    • 6). Draw longer hairs on top of the short hairs. Draw the longer hairs two to three times as long as the short hairs, and use a lighter pressure with the pencil. Angle the hairs in different directions but still facing the same way. This will make hair look fluffy, like the hair on a bear or an ox.

    • 7). Draw small, wispy hairs along the edge of the animal to make it appear as if the hairs are coming off of its body.
