Instructions for a Firmware Update to a Sony Blu-ray Player

    Network Connection

    • 1). Insert either the USB Wireless Adapter to the USB port on either the front or back of the Sony Blu-ray Disc Player, or the LAN terminal on the player to the modem or router using an Ethernet cable. If you connected the Blu-ray to the network using the wireless adapter, follow Steps 2 to 9 to connect the player to the wireless network. Wired connections can skip to Section 2.

    • 2). Power on the Sony Blu-ray Disc Player and the television set. Select "Network Settings" from the Blu-ray's home screen, then press the "Enter" key.

    • 3). Highlight the "Internet Settings" icon, and press "Enter" on the remote to select it.

    • 4). Choose "USB Wireless Setup" on the Internet Settings page, and press the right-arrow button on the remote to continue.

    • 5). Select either "Scan," or "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" if your router supports WPS. Press the right-arrow button to continue. The Blu-ray will search for available networks.

    • 6). Highlight the correct network, then press the right-arrow button to continue.

    • 7). Press the "Enter" button on the remote if prompted to enter a security key. This will open an on-screen keyboard. Use the keyboard to enter the correct key or passphrase. Then press "Enter" and the right-arrow on the remote.

    • 8). Choose "Auto" in the IP Address and Proxy Server page. Click the right-arrow button.

    • 9). Review the network configuration settings and click the right-arrow button. Then select "Save & Connect."

    Network Update

    • 1). Power on the Sony Blu-ray disc player and television set. Make sure the TV is tuned to the input that the Blu-ray is connected to. Remove any disc from the player.

    • 2). Select "Setup" from the Blu-ray home menu. Then select "Network Update" and press the "Enter" key on the remote.

    • 3). Select "OK" to "Perform Version Update?" when prompted. Then press the "Enter" key. The Blu-ray will automatically connect to the Sony website and install the necessary firmware update. The Blu-ray disc player will automatically power off. You can power it on when you are ready to use the player.

    Upgrade With a CD

    • 1). Go to the Sony website (see Resources). Select the player model and the computer operating system when prompted. Click the firmware update and download it to the PC.

    • 2). Insert a CD-R disc into the computer's optical drive. Double-click on the "Computer" icon, and then the optical drive icon.

    • 3). Drag the firmware update file to the optical drive folder, and follow the prompts to burn the file to disc.

    • 4). Remove the disc from the computer's optical drive once the filed is burned. Insert it into the Sony Blu-ray player. Make sure the player and TV set are powered on.

    • 5). Select "OK" to "Perform Version Update?" when prompted. Then press the "Enter" button on the remote. The Blu-ray will upgrade. When the words "Finish" appear on the screen, remove the upgrade disc from the player.
