How to Open the Yellow Lock Tab on a DVD

    • 1). Remove the hard drive from the computer's drive bay and put it upside down on the cloth. Remove the warranty stickers. Remove the screws under the warranty stickers and from the sides of the hard drive with the Torx screwdriver. Remove the shell off of the hard drive mechanism and put it aside.

    • 2). Remove the two magnets from their position on the spindle of the hard drive mechanism. Put the hard drive mechanism aside.

    • 3). Hold a magnet on the top of the DVD case and the other on the bottom. Rub a magnet slowly up the right edge of the top of the case and find the strong and weak attraction. Put the magnet at the point of the weak attraction.

    • 4). Move the magnet at the bottom of the case to the point where the strong attraction is. Jiggle the two magnets back and forth until the locking pin of the tab slides out. Open the case and remove the DVD.

    • 5). Put the two magnets back into position on the hard drive mechanism. Replace the cover of the hard drive and replace the screws in the side and under the warranty stickers. Put the hard drive back into the computer's drive bay.
