How to Install a Fuel Filter on a '98 ZX-6
- 1). Park the motorcycle and turn the fuel valve to the "Off" position. Allow the motor to cool down for at least 20 minutes.
- 2). Remove the seat, using the ignition key to unlock the seat latch. Lift the rear of the seat upward and pull it to the rear of the motorcycle. Set the seat aside.
- 3). Remove the middle fairings using an Allen key to remove the fairing bolts. Pull the fairings away from the motorcycle and set them aside.
- 4). Follow the fuel line that is attached to the right of the fuel valve. Locate the fuel filter installed between the fuel valve and the fuel pump. Grasp the hose clamp on the fuel valve side of the fuel filter and squeeze to loosen the clamp. Pull the fuel line off the filter and allow any remaining fuel in the line to drain into a container. Grasp the hose clamp on the fuel pump side of the fuel filter and squeeze to loosen the clamp. Pull the filter off the fuel pump's line.
- 5). Slip the new fuel filter's nipples into the fuel lines, aligning the flow direction arrow toward the fuel pump. Squeeze the hose clamps and slide them up and onto the fuel lines and the fuel filter's nipples.
- 6). Reinstall the middle fairings and seat in reverse order of their removal.
