    • 1). Determine the size that you want to build. Your measurements will depend on your mattress size:
      * King: 72 by 84 inches
      * Queen: 60 by 84 inches
      * Super single: 48 by 84 inches

    • 2). Cut two side pieces from 1-by-6 or 1-by-8 boards that are about 2 inches longer than your mattress. This will be about 86 inches.

    • 3). Cut your two end pieces out of the same kind of lumber as the side pieces. Add at least 1/8 inch to both sides.

    • 4). Attach your frame together with wood L-brackets and screws.

    • 5). Cut four more pieces of wood for the base. You will need two long and two short. The measurements will depend on the size of your large frame. This smaller base will be about two-thirds smaller than the large one. It can also be shorter. A good choice of lumber size for this frame is 2-by-4 or 2-by-6.

    • 6). Attach the small frame pieces together with screws and L-brackets, and center the smaller frame inside the large one.

    • 7). Cut sheets of plywood to match the outside dimensions of your large frame.

    • 8). Lay the plywood on the smaller frame and center it. This is important because the weight must be evenly distributed.

    • 9). Attach the plywood to the smaller base with recessed screws.
