How to Make a Sea Glass Necklace
- 1). Straighten a 1-foot length of 22-gauge craft wire from the spool, but don't cut it off the spool. Sea glass shapes and sizes vary to the point that the lengths of wire needed to wrap them will also vary. Most sea glass sizes are too heavy for thin 24-gauge wire (and finer gauges) to hold; 22-gauge is strong, yet still thin enough that the sea glass will show through.
- 2). Hold the end of the wire 3/8-inch from the tip with round nose pliers. Bend the wire at a 90-degree angle. Hold the tip end of the bent wire with the pliers. Twist the pliers to form a loop.
- 3). Hold the base of the wire loop flush against a piece of sea glass. Wrap the wire around the glass in a wide spiral. Basically, you are making a wire cage around the sea glass. Press the wire to the shape of the glass as you wrap it. Wrap as many times as necessary to hold the glass securely.
- 4). Cut the wire from the spool 3/8-inch from the end of the sea glass wrap. Repeat Step 2 to make another loop.
- 5). Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 to wrap as many sea glass pieces as you need for the necklace.
- 6). Open two split jump rings with round nose pliers. Hook one open ring over each loop on one piece of sea glass. Thread the loop from another piece of sea glass to each of the open jump rings. Close the jump rings.
- 7). Repeat Step 6 to make the length of the sea glass necklace. Connect a section of the necklace clasp to the end loop on the first and last pieces of sea glass in the necklace design.
