Grandma Birthday Gifts
- It's important that older people continue to exercise into their senior years so that they remain active and healthy. Choose an exercise gift for your grandmother, such as a sweat suit, tennis shoes or a pedometer she can wear on her daily walks. Alternatively, introduce her to a new kind of working out with a series of sessions at a yoga class that is aimed at senior citizens.
- Put together a gift basket for your grandmother. If she has a hobby, such as knitting, include new knitting needles, lots of different colors and types of yarn and a book about knitting. You could also create a food-related gift basket and fill it with things like cheese, specialty meats, chocolates or candy.
- When you can't spend a lot of money on your grandmother's birthday gift, make something that is thoughtful and from the heart. Choose a jar and cover it with fabric. Use a fabric pen or fabric paint to write "Favorite Memories of Grandma" on the outside of the jar. Write several of your favorite memories of your grandmother on slips of paper and place them inside the jar. Ask your parents, cousins, aunts, uncles and other family members to do the same. Your grandmother can take a slip of paper out of the jar every day and see how much her family loves her.
- Some grandmothers live on their own and could get lonely. If your grandmother is an animal lover, choose a pet for her as a birthday present. Cats and dogs provide companionship to many older people, and taking care of the pet can give her life renewed purpose. However, you should make sure your grandmother is open to the idea of a pet before you bring one to her. You could even take her to a local animal shelter so that she can pick out the animal on her own.
