How do I Make a Beverage Can Alcohol Stove?

    • 1). Use the measuring tape to measure 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of one of the beverage cans. Then, cut around the circumference of the can at that 1 1/2-inch level to make the bottom of the beverage can alcohol stove.

    • 2). Measure an inch from the top of the other 12-ounce beverage can and cut around the circumference to make the top portion of the stove. Throw away the remaining pieces of beverage can.

    • 3). Drill between 18 and 30 holes in the piece of can that will be the top portion of the stove using an electric drill with a 1/16-inch drill bit. These holes are where the stove's flames come through.

    • 4). Pour perlite, a compound found in the gardening area of a hardware store or at a nursery, into the bottom portion of the beverage-can alcohol stove.

    • 5). Snip six notches in the top piece, using the scissors or wire cutters. Start the cuts at the raw edge of the can and stop where the can curves toward the top. Push the top of the stove over the bottom portion that contains the perlite until the top is pushed all the way into the bottom.

    • 6). Cut a wire clothes hanger in half, then straighten out the hanger. Form each coat hanger half into a squared-off "U" and place it upside down in the ground. This serves a stand to set over the beverage-can alcohol stove so you have a place to put a cooking pot or pan.

    • 7). Add denatured alcohol to the stove until it's half full. Hold a lit match near the outer edge of the stove to light it. A beverage can alcohol stove will burn for about 15 minutes.
