How to Build Your Own Speaker Boxes
- 1). Read the manual provided by the speaker manufacturer to find the correct box size for the speaker. Check the recommended dimensions given for the speaker box you want to build to see if the measurements were done from the inside dimension or outside dimension. Mark the recommended measurements on the medium-density fiberboard (MDF) using a pencil.
- 2). Draw the circles for the speakers using a compass. If the box is for two speakers, find the center of the board and mark a line. Find the center of each half and mark your circles from the center points.
- 3). Cut out the sides of the box and the hole for the speaker or speakers using the jigsaw.
- 4). Assemble the box using the carpenter's glue. Let the carpenter's glue dry and then add some screws for extra strength.
- 5). Fill all inside seams with silicone to seal the box.
- 6). Drill a one-inch hole in the side panel for the speaker wires. If there are two speakers you will need a hole on each side.
- 7). Cover the box with the speaker box carpet using a spray adhesive. Trim excess carpet with a razor knife.
