90 Days Slimmer: A Paleo Diet Book Review

When I decided to take on this 90-day challenge, I asked myself why anyone be interested in my story. I'm not famous. I don't possess any miracle solutions. I'm just an average mom trying to live my life from one day to the next. And then it struck me... that's exactly why I should write this! If I experience these struggles, maybe other women do as well. I thought maybe if I could overcome my food demons, it could inspire you to overcome yours as well. So here is my story.

When I started the Paleo Diet, I weighed 48 pounds heavier than when I got married. I gained most of this weight early in my marriage, as a result of birthing my two beautiful children. I wanted the weight off...and more. I've never wanted to be skinny, just healthy. I don't even feel the need to wear sizes in the single digits. But, I would like to be able to go out in public without feeling as if i'm being judged. Sometimes i felt as if my own children were embarrassed to be seen walking with me.

When I began researching different diet plans, Paleo was one of the few recipe books that actually made sense to me. It focuses on how our bodies were meant to eat, and what we're genetically programmed to process. There aren't any magic tricks, fat burning miracles, or drugs; just solid, sensible, and easy to follow guidelines. The Paleo Recipe Book emphasizes fresh foods, rather than processed, which makes sense as it removes many chemical additives from your diet. Paleo recipes include a healthy regimen of lean meat, healthful oils, seafood, fresh vegetables, and fruit. This is not to say you have to eat all game meats and raw vegetables and fruits to benefit. You can adapt many of your favorite recipes and snacks, or eat out, if you pay attention to what you're ordering.

Why turn back the hands of time and eat this way? The idea is that our bodies are genetically programmed to eat like our Paleolithic ancestors. However, the Paleo Diet is not without controversy. Some nutrition experts insist that humans have adapted to a broader diet including whole grains, dairy, and legumes. If the Paleo recipe book appeals to you, be sure to supplement the plan with calcium and vitamin D.

So what is my final opinion after spending 90-days on the Paleo Diet? The Paleo Recipe Book is definitely backed by scientific research and user testimonials. The real issue lies with a person's ability to stay dedicated to a new eating habit because of cravings and how easy it is to give in to temptation. The truth is, a healthy diet with a good amount of exercise must be followed regardless. I have tried many diets, but my cravings always seem to bring the weight back. I have lost 12 pounds on the Paleo diet in the past 90 days with very few cravings. I rarely feel hungry. I do keep a calorie diary and I do exercise on occasion. Overall, I would say the Paleo Recipe Book is a delicious and simple way to eat good food and feel good.
