- DVD Release Date: December 12, 2008
Guide Review - 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' 2-Disc Deluxe Edition DVD Review
The Story
Rick O'Connell (Fraser) is drawn back into the world of the undead when his son, Alex (Luke Ford) - now all grown up and seeking his own fortune - goes to China and accidently gets involved in waking up the 2,000 year Dragon Emperor (Jet Li). As usual, it's left to Rick and his wife, Evelyn (now played by Maria Bello), to stop the Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 Terra Cotta warriors from taking over the world. The Bonus Features
'Deluxe Edition' is right. The 2-disc The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor DVD is packed with goodies, and not just the run of the mill behind-the-scenes extras.Skip the feature commentary with director Cohen and head straight to the other bonus material. The DVD contains 9 scenes that actually could have/should have been included in the movie, as well as a 'Making of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' featurette that Mummy fans are going to really love.
Fans are also treated to a look at the staging of fights scenes with 'Preparing for Battle,' and 'Jet Li: Crafting the Emperor Mummy' is a cool featurette on the digital effects used to create the mummy. And 'From City to Desert' is a bit on the locations used in this third Mummy (did you know it was the largest movie made in China?).
The 2-disc Deluxe Edition DVD also has an interesting - and educational - featurette on the real terra cotta warriors. In addition, there's a piece on the art direction and set design of The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and a look at the film's cast. Overall, there's a better than average selection of bonus material included on the Deluxe Edition DVD.
