How to Build Cheap Cabinets
- 1). Form a rectangle with two pieces of your 2-feet by 3-feet pieces of plywood and your 3-feet by 8-feet pieces of plywood. One of the 2-feet by 3-feet pieces should be even with the top edges of the longer pieces and the other should be offset 1 inch from the edges. This is the frame for the cabinet. Make sure all edges are square and screw this all together
- 2). From the top of the bottom shelf (the piece which is 1 inch from the edge of the sides), measure up 1 foot. This is where the bottom of the next shelf will go (all shelves will be 1 foot apart, except for the top shelf which will be 1 foot, 5 inches). Place another 2-feet by 3-feet pieces in this place. Make sure it is level and screw it into the sides. Repeat for all shelves.
- 3). Place the piece of 3/4-inch plywood which is 8-feet tall by 2-feet, 11/2 inches wide over one side of the cabinet. It should cover the cabinet frame completely. This is the back of your cabinet. Make sure it is square and screw it into place.
- 4). Add the hinges to the interior of the cabinet. These should be approximately 1 inch from the top and bottom and in the center.
- 5). Attach the remaining piece of plywood to the hinges. This is the cabinet door. Attach the handle to the door on the opposite side of the hinges.
