How to Change the Oil in a 2007 Jetta TDI
- 1). Remove the three T30 bolts holding the splash guard on with the T30 wrench. The splash guard is located under the car, on the bottom of the engine bay. The T30 bolts are located across the rear of the splash guard. Remove the four bolts on each of the sides of the splash guard with the T25 wrench. Remove the splash guard by sliding it backwards to disengage the tabs holding it in at the front.
- 2). Open the hood and locate the engine cover. This is a black and silver plastic cover that is located over the top of the engine. Remove the cover by pulling off. It is held on by rubber snaps to facilitate removal.
- 3). Remove the oil filter cap with the pipe wrench. The filter cap is located in the front of the engine on the left side. Lift the cap and the attached oil filter out of the uncovered filter housing and twist the old filter off of the filter cap.
- 4). Install the new oil filter in the filter cap. Lubricate the o-rings of the new filter with engine oil and press the stem of the new filter into the cap until it snaps in place. Place to the side.
- 5). Place the drain pan underneath the drain plug. Locate the silver metal block just in front of the front axle. This the drain pan. The plug is located on the rear of the drain pan on the side nearest the axle. Put the 19mm socket on the ratchet and remove the drain plug. Allow all of the oil to drain from the drain pan.
- 6). Replace the drain plug and tighten with the ratchet.
- 7). Place the filter and cap on the housing and use the adjustable wrench to tighten the cap.
- 8). Remove the filler cap and pour four quarts of oil in. Check the level on the dipstick, and add more oil a little at a time until the oil level is between the "Min" and "Max" markings on the dipstick. Place the filler cap back in a place firmly.
