Have My Bit Coins Bitten The Dust?

Bit coins are becoming very fashionable these days as a means of paying for goods and services via the Internet.  To this end more and more people are using them and as such are finding that problems are occurring if they save their details to their hard drives.

When saving any information to a hard drive it is worth looking ahead and considering what might happen if the hard drive – or whatever other storage device it might be – suddenly ceases to function in the correct manner.

Whereas a variety of Bit Coin programs and exchanges give you the option to store your data in the cloud (storing the information on servers situated elsewhere) or on your own computer the vast majority of individuals or businesses using Bit Coin for the first time tend to save their wallets offline for safekeeping.

This is designed to minimise the loss of data and also prevent those nefarious forces at work on the Internet from hacking into their Bit Coin wallets and emptying them (the online version of pickpocketing a real wallet).

And while this is a practice that many agree with and feel suits them best problems can arise if there are problems with the storage device in question.

After all how many of us have used a computer or storage device without incident one day only to find the next day it will not work properly if at all?  It is something that has plagued every computer user at one time or another and will continue to do so for as long as physical storage devices exist.

With clients new and old we have always said that there can be no legislation for a storage device that's time is up.  They have no timers and no way of really telling you there is a problem until the problem occurs.  Indeed sometimes the only warning you get are the occasional error message, the slowing down of the machine on which the device is being used, or just a user's gut feeling that something isn't right.

But for every user that realises there is a problem sadly there is twice as many who are unfortunate enough never to receive any warning and their storage device will simply stop functioning.  It is only upon switch on that one discovers the extent of the problem when they are greeted with a blank screen and a error message, a failed BIOS warning, or an operating system reporting that bad sectors exist on the drive so continuing is not an option.

And herein lies the rub because if you have amassed a considerable number of Bit Coins and have saved them in a wallet offline, being unable to get at them means that they are pretty much worthless.

However we are here to help and have helped clients reclaim both their valuable Bit Coins (its worth noting that the value of these coins goes up as well as down) and other data of importance to them that might otherwise be considered lost forever.

Contact us if you are having an issue with a device on which your Bit Coin wallet is being stored and we will be only too happy to help you recover your virtual treasure.

And in addition to helping you reclaim your Bit Coins we are now gearing up to accepting payment ourselves by Bit Coin so once we've recovered them for you, you can use them to pay for their safe return!
