Now that the summer nights are beginning to slowly draw in, the one thing that will help you look forward with some fondness to the winter months is to think about booking a ski holiday to the Three Valleys! Chalets are abundant in this delightful region, and is an ideal way to get all the personal space and independence you need, while placing you right in the heart of the action.

The Three Valleys region is located in the Tarentaise Valley in the eastern part of France around the borders of France, Switzerland and Italy. As the name suggested, the area is comprised of - three valleys! Chalets here will afford you access to one of the world's largest ski areas. You can purchase a pass that will allow you to ski on more than 600 kilometres of slopes and use 183 ski lifts.

Skiing in the area

In terms of skiing, there are few places in the world where you can get as much range as in the Three Valleys. Chalets to die for and a great infrastructure complete the perfect picture of a winter holiday resort. You'll have access to as much skiing as you can handle at a level that is just right for you, whether you are an expert skier or a complete novice.

If you have never strapped on skis before, head towards the gentle slopes of Val Thorens and Les Menuires. If you are an intermediate skier, you are really spoiled for choice in the Three Valleys, as around 50 percent of the slopes here are rated intermediate.

Meribel is a great place stay to remain central and also have access to a range of slopes, including off piste trails - but be careful not to go off piste unless you have a qualified guide to lead you.

Cross country skiing

Maybe you love to ski but aren't keen on the usual vertical slopes? Well that's ok, you've come to the right place in the Three Valleys. Chalets near Val Thorens or Meribel are ideal for those interested in the gentler (yet very energetic) art of cross-country skiing. Here you can link into the 130 kilometres of cross-country ski trails for a hard-core session or a more easy-going few hours of skimming through the lovely landscape. Near Courchevel there is an easy two and a half kilometre loop and another one that is just double that, should you want a bit more of a chance to get your cross-country ski legs!

Whatever you want and wherever you are in this fabulous ski region, you can rest assured in the knowledge that you are truly experiencing one of the world's best winter playgrounds.
