UK to Avoid Triple Dip Recession

It has just been announced by the CBI that they expect the UK to avoid Triple Dip Recession by growing 0.3% in the first quarter of 2013.

That comes after the economy shrunk in the last quarter of 2012 by 0.3%, the first period in what some feared might be another six months of negative growth. This was post the Olympic fueled summer of growth.

But the CBI now expects the UK economy to grow by 1% in 2013 which is less than the 1.4% it previously expected.

CBI director-general John Cridland told the BBC's Today programme he was a little more optimistic than he was a month ago.

"During January I'd just begun to see signs that small, medium and large companies - particularly those exporting and beginning to get some benefit from the eurozone crisis moving away a little bit and the slightly better news from America - are feeling optimistic about what will come next.

"At the moment the economy's pretty flattish but I think there's just signs we might be edging upwards," he said.

It is generally predicted by many economic comentators that this bumpy economic ride is here to stay for the foreseeable with the Uk economy dipping in and out of negative growth quarter on quarter.

This view held by the CBI is mirrored by City Centre Recruitment's offices based in Southampton, Bournemouth, Weymouth and Yeovil. All 4 offices have seen increased demand for their services in Q1 2013. In particular we have taken client instructions on a large number of Engineering jobs and Driving jobs.

Our hospitality and catering division has also started the year well with good availability of chef jobs throughout Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset on both a temporary and permanent basis. We expect demand from hotels and other venues requiring more general catering staff including waiters, bar staff and kitchen porters to start to pick up as we approach Easter and the summer season.
