  A remote starter saves time and effort by allowing you to "warm up" your vehicle before you even get behind the wheel. Different systems are available, but most are similar in how they are installed. There are, however, a few tips for installing a remote starter system.
  
  

Before You Begin

• Check your vehicle's lights, switches, and systems. Determine if applicable systems and components operate as expected. Make sure the engine is running well, too.
  
  

Extra Space

• Give yourself extra space by removing the driver's seat. This task isn't difficult with most vehicles. If your vehicle contains power seats, however, be prepared to disconnect some wires (see reference 3).
  
  

Major Wires

• You will be working with.different parts of the ignition switch. This includes the key switch and the wires controlling the ignition, the starter, the accessories, and the overall power. The ignition wire supplies power to the ignition system and fuel pump. The starter wire provides power to the starter solenoid, which helps start he engine to start. The accessory wire provides power to the air conditioner and blower, and the power wire fires the ignition switch. Some vehicle have two power wires, and sometimes even have two ignition wires. Make sure all these wires are connected before starting work.
  
  

Soldering

• When connecting wires together, make sure you solder all the wire connectors. This helps ensure the connection will be solid and durable.
  
  

Running Wires

• Take note when running wires below the dashboard. Avoid running wires near sharp objects. Doing so helps ensure the wires won't break.
  
  

Engine Compartment

• If you end up having to run wires through the actual engine compartment, be sure to take steps to protect them. One possible way to do this is "split looming" -- placing a protective metal sleeve over the wire. Another possibility: cover the length of wire with tape.
  
  

Testing

• Once installation is completed, test the remote starting system to be sure it works properly.
