What Is Lens Color Fringing?
- Different colors of light travel at different speeds, and different lenses reduce the speed of light. This can result in a dispersion of the light known as lens color fringing, or chromatic aberration.
- Some lenses' magnification changes for each wavelength of color. This leads to color fringes.
- Purple fringing occurs frequently in digital photography. It appears as a blurred purple border around part of photograph.
- Using ultrawide angle and true telephoto lenses increases the likelihood of lens color fringing. Some cameras correct this automatically, but others require you to fix the picture using a program.
- Several photo editing programs have a function for correcting lens color fringe. Some sample programs are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Picture Window Pro. Use the program's help function to locate the function.
