How to Remove a Nest Outdoors

    • 1). Put on gloves, climb up your ladder, and pull down the nest. Nests can hold dust and bird mites, so be sure to wear a dust mask for extra protection.

    • 2). Take a long pole, carefully aim it at the bird nest, and knock it down by jabbing at it with the end of the pole.

    • 3). Take a hose with a multi-spray nozzle and dial the nozzle until a sharp, hard spray comes out. Aim it up at the bird nest and knock the nest down with the water stream. Use a power washer if available as it will do the job faster and more effectively. Power washers are special units that propel streams of water at really high pressure and are generally used by homeowners for removing paint from siding before painting or for cleaning decks and porches.

    • 4). Call a pest control professional and pay him or her to remove the nest.

    • 5). If the bird nest is mounted to a post, use a screwdriver or crow bar to pry it off the post and take it away.

How to Remove a Bird's Nest in the Attic

    • 1). Locate the bird's nest. Climb a ladder from the outside to the hole where the bird is entering the attic and see whether it's possible to reach through and take the nest away. Pound a screen over the hole to keep the birds from getting into the attic in the future.

    • 2). Take a good flashlight, gloves, dust mask, safety goggles, and garbage bag and go up the attic. If walking upright in the attic isn't possible, very carefully crawl across the ceiling beams on hands and knees to where the nest is.

    • 3). Pull the nest down with gloved hands and place it in the garbage bag without disturbing too much dust. Tie the bag shut before crawling back out of the attic.
