• 1). Click open the "Start" menu. Click "Computer."
  
  
• 2). Locate your disc drive by expanding the "Devices with Removable Storage" header in the main region of the window.
  
  
• 3). Look at the drive's label. You can record CDs if your optical drive has the letters "R Drive" or "RW Drive" at the end of its label. For example, look for "DVD RW Drive (F:)."
  
  

Mac OS X

• 1). Click the Apple icon at the top-left corner of the screen.
  
  
• 2). Click "About This Mac," and then click "More Info" to retrieve a detailed system analysis.
  
  
• 3). Locate and click the "Hardware" category in the Apple System Profiler window that appears on screen.
  
  
• 4). Click "Disc Burning" to display a list of your device's burning capabilities. This will tell you what types of discs your system can burn.
