    • A cheaper model--at $89.99 in October 2010--than Magellan's larger-screened or thinner models, the Magellan 1200 dashboard navigation system still offers a 3.5-inch QVGA color touch screen and will fit easily in most pockets. More than 1.3 million points of interest are loaded out of the box, as well as all maps for the United States and Puerto Rico.

    In General

    • The Magellan 1200 is a diminutive GPS device, though not the company's smallest. It measures (W/D/H) 3.63-by-0.69-by-3.3 inches and weighs 4.94 oz., approximately the same as the smartphones of 2010. The black casing is made of hardened plastic. The color LCD display is 3.5 inches diagonally and capable of a 320 by 240 pixel resolution and touch-screen manipulation. The battery is capable of three hours of unconnected use.

    Specifically

    • The 1200's built-in antenna is capable of operating on "SBAS WAAS" and "EGNOS" systems with an accuracy of 3 to 5 m. All roads--improved concrete or established dirt--are covered in every state and Puerto Rico. Access as many as 1.3 million way points with a search function or through interactive icons that appear near your direction of travel and allow for an instant change of directions.

Magellan's QuickSpell function helps keep your eyes on the road by suggesting correct spellings and completing words. A SmartDetour command instantly changes your route to navigate around bad traffic. You can view maps in bird's-eye or driver's view, in 2D or 3D. Date on distance, arrival time, trip time and a compass accent the offerings. Directions are given in on-screen prompts and voice commands.

    Accessories

    • The Magellan 1200 comes new with AV and car-lighter chargers. It also includes a windshield mount, memory card and rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
