How to File W2 Forms Online
- 1). Gather your W2 forms together. It also is a good idea to gather other documents, such as your income documents, your expenditure documents and other tax forms, as you might choose to complete all of your taxes at the same time once you fill out your W2s.
- 2). Go to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website listed in the references section. Choose which type of taxes you are filing. If you are filing your own W2 forms, you will choose the federal taxes link. If you are filing the W2 forms from your employees, you will choose a link that reflects what type of business you have, such as the "Small Business" taxes link.
- 3). Choose W2 from the list of available forms.
- 4). Complete the top portion of the W2 form with the proper identification information of yourself or your employees.
- 5). Read the descriptions under each of the boxes and check the appropriate boxes to mark you or your employees as dependents or as federal tax filers.
- 6). Print out the W2 form so it can be signed. Some years, you can electronically sign the W2 and submit it as part of your E-File for your federal taxes. If you do not see that option, it means the IRS is not currently accepting E-Filed W2s, and you will need to print out your W2 to send it via mail.
