How to Design Your Own Dog Tags
- 1). Choose a dog tag style. You may want a regular military dog tag, a small tag (for a toy dog), a large tag for luggage or even a specialty tag like a "Nintendog tag" or a "Wolverine Weapon-X Dog tag."
- 2). Select the material for your tag. Common materials are stainless steel, brass, copper or aluminum. Choose a material that won't rust.
- 3). Decide what information you want on the tag. The usual space allowed is15 to16 characters per line, with five lines per tag (some companies allow a sixth line). Use abbreviations if you want to put a lot of information on your tag. For example, SS for Social Security, DOB for Date Of Birth or RTN for Return.
- 4). Choose a silencer color, ring type, and chain or lanyard. These items are available in a multitude of styles and colors. A "silencer," in this case is the rubber ring around the edge of the tag to keep it from jangling.
